How It Works

J.V. Fletcher Library’s Summer Reading Program:

Explore New Worlds: Read

The “Explore New Worlds: Read” Summer Reading Program is open to children from preschool to those entering 5th grade in September. Older students should investigate “X-treme Reading” for Young Adults entering 6th grade and up.

CHILDREN WHO READ set weekly individual reading goals with their parents.  Reading goals will vary from child to child and perhaps from week to week. (A “week” does not have to be Sunday through Saturday, but can be any seven day span.)  Once a week, when the family comes to the library, children bring their logbooks to show what they have been reading and to collect a special prize.

CHILDREN WHO ARE READ TO also may come to the Library on a weekly basis to receive a prize for their week of listening. They are encouraged to draw a picture of the stories they heard. (Even a scribble has been known to “illustrate” the whole story line of a picture book.)

Log Books

Remember to bring your log books to collect your reading prize and get a special stamp.

If the log book gets filled up, you may add a piece of paper to continue recording. There are no extra log books this summer.

Tickets

Some events require tickets for admission. Tickets cost $2.00 (two dollars) per person, including adults, and go on sale on Monday, two weeks before the scheduled performance. You may call the Library to reserve tickets.
